Revolut unveils checkout system with facial-recognition payments
Revolut has unveiled a new checkout system for merchants, with an initial launch planned in the UK.
Called Revolut Register, it includes a main touchscreen, a tablet for taking payments away from the counter and a camera for biometric payments.
The system is designed to encourage use of Pay with Smile, Revolut’s facial-recognition payment service.
Revolut currently charges merchants no transaction fees for Pay with Smile, while card payments incur fees.
For supported UK-issued cards, the fee is 0.8% of the payment plus 2 pence; international cards cost 2.6% plus 2 pence.
The system accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express, but not regional networks or some international networks, and merchants must have a Revolut Business account.
The hardware costs about £700 before tax, with no activation or monthly device fee.
