Saudi energy minister vows commitment after deadly airport attack
Saudi Arabia opened a week of international energy meetings in Riyadh on Oct.
11, 2026.
The gathering came one day after an attack at King Khalid International Airport killed 12 people and injured 309, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation.
Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman told delegates that the attack would not weaken the Kingdom’s commitment to energy supplies.
The meetings include the International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting, hosted by Saudi Arabia, Italy and Nigeria.
Energy security is a central concern because shocks can disrupt markets and supply routes, affecting countries beyond energy producers.
Saudi Arabia uses its East-West pipeline to carry crude to the Red Sea without passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and the minister said more pipeline projects were being developed.
Riyadh Energy Week runs through Oct.
15, and Italy is due to host the next International Energy Forum ministerial meeting in 2028.
