Russia says it can respond to unfriendly actions by other countries

Russia says it can take measures against unfriendly actions by other countries if they threaten its sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova cited a clause in Russia’s foreign policy concept, adopted in 2023.

The clause says Russia may use symmetric or asymmetric measures to stop such actions and prevent them from happening again.

Zakharova was responding to Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, who said specialists were being trained in Poland and the Baltic states to undermine Russia from within.

Shoigu’s claim prompted the response, but no evidence for it was described.

The statement sets out Russia’s position; it does not specify any planned action.
