Italian company patents an automatic stand for motorcycles and scooters

SPA developed and patented Stop & Up, an automatic stand for motorcycles and scooters.

The Italian company says a rider can use a button on the handlebar to raise and position the vehicle.

The system is designed to keep a parked bike upright on uneven ground by adjusting for slopes and widening the support base.

Earlier automatic stands struggled with safety because they could lift a bike when it was not properly positioned.

Stop & Up is designed to operate only when the wheels are still and the brake is on, and it blocks use if the bike is leaning too far.

It also has a lock for longer stops and can be used manually if its electro-hydraulic system fails.

The device will be presented at EICMA in Milan, which runs from November 3 to 8.
