Jung Il-woo expands into film investment and distribution

After 20 years as an actor, South Korean star Jung Il-woo is moving into film investment and distribution.

He says he wants to use his experience to help films reach audiences, including works that face barriers related to language, borders or distribution.

Jung has worked in markets including China, Japan and Vietnam, and attended Japanese Cinema Night at the Busan International Film Festival.

He has invested in films including Sentimental Value, which won the International Feature Film award at the 98th Academy Awards.

Jung says he chooses projects for their stories and their ability to move audiences, and sees connecting Korean viewers with unconventional films as part of his responsibility.

He aims to help good films find audiences, but no specific next project or release is stated.
