Dean Boxall withdraws from Australia’s Swim GP event
Dean Boxall has withdrawn from the Swim GP in Melbourne, a two-day swimming event scheduled for November 13.
He had been named to lead one of four teams, each made up of 20 swimmers, including several Australian Olympians.
Swimming Australia is developing the event to build interest in swimming at home and create more broadcast content ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Games.
Boxall is also due to coach at an International Swimming League event in London on December 19, alongside coaches from Scotland, Canada and South Africa.
The league has faced criticism because more than 300 athletes are owed about $7 million in prize money from its 2021 season.
The league announced a repayment plan in July, with its first of four annual instalments due by the end of 2026.
Boxall confirmed he was leaving the Swim GP but did not explain why, so his reasons remain unclear.
Dean Boxall has withdrawn from next month’s inaugural Swim GP event in Melbourne.
Swimming Australia had named Boxall to lead Team Tsunami at the two-day event, scheduled for November 13.
Boxall confirmed his withdrawal but did not explain why.
He is due to coach the Commonwealth Team at the International Swimming League’s All-Star Match in London on December 19.
