Anthropic reports $80.7 billion first-half loss ahead of planned IPO

Anthropic reported an $80.7 billion loss for the first half of 2026 in a draft filing ahead of its planned November stock-market listing.

The artificial intelligence company, which makes the Claude chatbot, said most of the loss came from non-cash accounting adjustments linked to financing agreements.

Revenue rose to $16.3 billion, up from $1.1 billion in the same period a year earlier.

But two customers provided about one-fifth of its revenue, leaving the company exposed if major clients reduce their spending.

Anthropic also spent nearly $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the first half, as demand for processing power drives up costs.

It may spend as much as $750 billion on computing capacity in coming years, while its draft filing also warns that serious AI safety incidents could cause harm beyond the limits of available insurance.

The company is preparing for its planned November IPO, but the filing does not confirm its final valuation or whether the listing will go ahead as planned.
