Top Boy launched careers and returned for three Netflix series
Top Boy began on Channel 4 in 2011, following drug dealers Dushane and Sully in Hackney, east London.
The show was cancelled after two series, then Netflix revived it for three more series in 2019 with backing from rapper Drake.
Its cast included Ashley Walters as Dushane, alongside model Adwoa Aboah, rapper Dave and musician Little Simz.
The series helped raise the profiles of several cast members, and it won awards at the British Academy Television Awards.
Walters had begun acting as a child and later performed with So Solid Crew as rapper Asher D. He has since earned praise for his role in Adolescence, a drama about a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a schoolgirl.
Walters is now turning to directing with prison drama Animol, though no further details are given.
