Lula says no social programs will end in his next term

Brazil’s re-elected president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, says no social programs will be ended when his next term begins in 2027.

False claims spread online after the election that benefits such as Bolsa Família and Gás do Povo would be cut or stopped.

The government says both programs are operating, with no suspended payments or reduced benefits.

Lula won 51.79% of valid votes, defeating Flávio Bolsonaro, who received 48.21%.

He announced no new measures, but said the promises he made during the campaign will be fulfilled and that existing programs could be improved or new ones created.

Lula also said he plans to travel around Brazil to thank voters in person.
