Harry Brook says Wellington incident taught him about leadership

England captain Harry Brook says he has learned from an off-field incident as the first anniversary approaches.

Last Halloween, a nightclub bouncer punched Brook in Wellington, hours before he led England against New Zealand in a one-day international.

Brook says leadership also means taking responsibility away from the field, and that actions matter more than words.

Since then, England have won their last three one-day series, after losing seven of their previous eight, and their T20 team is ranked first in the world.

Brook averages 51.3 in one-day matches as captain, compared with 25.2 when he is not captain, and says he wants to deliver in match-winning moments.

England are starting a tri-series in Rawalpindi against Pakistan, with Sri Lanka also taking part.

Each team plays the others twice, and the top two will meet in the final on Halloween.

Personally I’m not that bothered about the stats, I’ve always said I think there should be a match-winning column in your stats – that’s not there.
