Aathar Al-Hakim attends Cairo play after 15 years away from acting

Egyptian actress Aathar Al-Hakim attended a Cairo performance of Nostalgia 80/90 after about 15 years away from acting.

She watched from the audience wearing a black hat and face mask, according to one account, and was revealed by the play’s star, Tamer Abdel Moneim.

The audience welcomed her with applause as she joined them on stage, and she became tearful.

Al-Hakim said she had been retired for 15 years and thanked people for their support over the years.

Her last television drama role was in the 2009 series The Taut String.

She also praised the play and said that good art would continue to live on.

Abdel Moneim said she had attended in disguise for the third time during the play’s three-year run; no further plans for her return to acting were stated.

The truth is, no matter how much I thank all the beautiful people, I will never be able to repay them for what they have given me over the years. By God's grace, I have been retired for 15 years. I myself can’t believe it. May God keep me steadfast and all of us, and grant us a good ending.

One of the most beautiful things that has happened to me during the three years of the play 'Nostalgia 80/90' is finding the great star Aathar Al-Hakim among the audience disguised for the third time without informing anyone. You honored us and brightened our day.
