Factorio 2.1 arrives as the game’s final major update

Wube Software has released Factorio 2.1, the latest update to its factory-building game.

It is the game’s final major update after 14 years of development, according to the developer.

Factorio’s Space Age expansion lets players build across several alien planets, and many changes in 2.1 improve how goods move between planets and space platforms.

Rockets can now carry different items in one launch, and platforms can transfer goods between each other.

The update also adjusts enemy behavior, adds features such as land mines used as tripwires, and includes new graphics and Linux ARM64 support.

The changes focus on polish, not new planets or research trees, so players should not expect a major new expansion in this release.

Smaller patches and bug fixes may still come, while Wube says it is turning its attention to other game experiments.

Factorio now runs natively on ARM64 Linux, which means the game runs on Steam Frame, Raspberry Pi (headless servers), Asahi Linux on Apple Silicon MacBooks, the free VPS you claimed from Oracle that one time, and other assorted hardware.
