Two Italian retail bonds pass €8 billion in combined orders

Italy is selling two government bonds reserved for individual savers from 19 to 23 October, unless the sale closes early.

By the afternoon of 20 October, orders for the pair had passed €8 billion combined.

One bond pays interest every three months, with annual rates rising from 3.70% to 4.70% over five years.

The other pays a guaranteed 22.25% return at the end of five years, together with the original investment.

These figures are minimum rates and may be raised when the sale ends, but not lowered.

The bonds are being sold at a minimum purchase of €1,000, and investors can sell them before maturity at market prices.

The sale is scheduled to end at 1 p.m.

on 23 October, and final rates may be adjusted upward based on market conditions that day.
