Danantara pledges at least $100 million a year for social programs
Indonesia's Danantara says its philanthropic trust will provide at least $100 million a year for social programs.
The money will support education, health, and clean water and sanitation across the country.
In health, the trust has approved funding for HPV vaccination and specialist-doctor scholarships, while a broader health initiative aims to train and place medical staff in areas with shortages.
One program will provide scholarships and living costs for 1,343 medical and health trainees, with recipients expected to serve in their home regions after training.
Danantara says its education initiative will also provide scholarships, while its water and sanitation program is planned for 156 villages in East Nusa Tenggara.
The funding matters because it is intended to address gaps in services, including shortages of doctors and barriers to preventing cervical cancer.
In its second year, the trust plans to expand partnerships with government, universities, development groups, and other organizations.

We are committing that the minimum funds to be distributed to the country will be US$100 million every year.
The program should take 15 years because there is not enough money. With this support from Danantara Trust, we want to speed it up. Maybe it can be done in 10 years, or even 5.
