Jammu court declares Rajouri man wanted and seals encounter-site phone data

A special NIA court in Jammu issued orders in two separate terror-related cases.

In one case, it declared Rajouri native Mushtaq Ahmed Mir a proclaimed offender after he failed to appear in court.

Police said Mir allegedly crossed the Line of Control in 1995-96, joined terrorism and later took shelter in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

A court proclamation and a non-bailable warrant had not led to his appearance, so the court ordered the proclamation published in Jammu’s Official Gazette.

In the other case, investigators said a cellphone was recovered at an encounter site and its data was extracted by a forensic laboratory.

The court ordered that data kept sealed and protected from disclosure during the trial.

The orders address the court’s efforts to proceed against Mir and to restrict access to evidence in the separate case.
