Claudio Martelli swears during a live debate on Filorosso

Former Italian justice minister Claudio Martelli swore during a live TV debate on Filorosso on Tuesday.

The discussion concerned the Mafia massacres of 1992, and grew heated as Martelli argued with former prosecutor Antonio Di Pietro.

The programme’s host, Antonino Monteleone, reacted by saying it was not Big Brother and that Martelli would not be expelled.

Two accounts identify the channel as Rai3, while another identifies it as Rai2.

The incident has drawn attention to standards on Italy’s public broadcaster, Rai, which is funded in part by a licence fee.

Blasphemy in Italy is no longer a crime, but it can carry an administrative fine of 51 to 309 euros.

No further action over the broadcast is reported.
