Emiko Uenuma criticises hot-spring inn’s slim-fit yukata service

Japanese entertainer Emiko Uenuma said a hot-spring inn’s yukata service left her feeling excluded.

She told the story on the Yomiuri TV programme “Uenuma and Takada’s Kugizuke!”

on November 1.

The inn had yukata robes in the lobby for guests to choose, and younger women were selecting them.

Uenuma said staff did not invite her to choose, so she asked and took three robes to her room.

The robes were too small to wrap around her body, and she said staff explained they were made slimmer for younger guests.

Uenuma saw the service as aimed at young women, and complained that it made her feel dismissed because of her age.

Her story drew laughs on the programme, but she criticised the inn and said she had thought yukata came in a free size.

The inn was not named, and no further action was reported.
