Electoral board keeps Óscar Puente atop PSOE list for Valladolid
Valladolid's electoral board has kept Óscar Puente at the top of the PSOE's candidate list for Spain's general election on November 29.
Puente resigned as transport minister and said he would step down as the party's lead candidate after the deadly Urda rail accident.
The PSOE asked for Equality Minister Ana Redondo, currently second on the list, to replace him.
The board said published candidate lists cannot now be changed, so Puente's name will remain on the ballot.
Ballots with his name crossed out will still count as valid, because the board said voters' choice would remain clear.
The decision comes as the PSOE tries to revive its campaign after the accident, and the party plans to resume campaigning in Valencia on Friday.
