Flávio Bolsonaro says he will not reveal how he left Brazil
Brazilian senator Flávio Bolsonaro says he travelled to the United States after losing Brazil’s presidential election to Lula and disputing the result.
He told the New York Times that no government helped him leave and said he would keep the details secret.
His departure came after authorities ordered him to hand over his passports as part of an investigation into suspected money laundering.
Other newspapers reported that a private jet arranged by Jason Miller carried him, while an Argentine newspaper said an adviser to President Javier Milei monitored the operation; Bolsonaro said friends abroad offered only support.
He said his stay in the United States with his family should be temporary and that he wants to run in another Brazilian election.
He said he would be a candidate if new elections take place, while his party is not challenging the election result.
Flávio Bolsonaro denied receiving help from any government to travel from Brazil to the United States, according to an interview published by The New York Times.
He said he made the trip himself and would not reveal how he left Brazil.
El Clarín reported that Santiago Caputo, an adviser to Argentina’s President Javier Milei, monitored the operation from Puerto Iguazú, a claim cited by Folha.
