Carrie McEachran defeats Sarnia mayor Mike Bradley after 38 years

Carrie McEachran defeated Mike Bradley in Sarnia’s mayoral election on Monday.

McEachran, the chief executive of the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce, received 13,828 votes, compared with Bradley’s 7,185 in unofficial results.

The result ends Bradley’s 38 years as mayor; he had first been elected in 1988.

Sarnia, in southwestern Ontario, has had no other mayor since its 1991 amalgamation with the Town of Clearwater.

McEachran will be the city’s first woman mayor and a political newcomer.

She campaigned on economic growth, more housing choices, transparency at city hall and preparing for future change.

She plans to meet council and the city’s chief administrator to get up to speed and begin work.
