Raspberry Pi Desktop returns with Debian 13 and a Wayland desktop
Raspberry Pi has released a new version of Raspberry Pi Desktop, its Debian-based system for PCs and Intel Macs.
The previous major version was based on Debian 11 and came out in 2022.
The new release skips Debian 12 and is based on Debian 13, also known as Trixie.
It brings the Wayland desktop used by newer versions of Raspberry Pi OS, along with Raspberry Pi Connect, a remote-control service.
The PC edition now supports only 64-bit x86 systems, so it will not run on Apple Silicon Macs.
People using the old 32-bit edition will need to install the new version from scratch rather than upgrade in place.
A deeper review is planned, but the new version has not yet been tested.
Raspberry Pi Desktop has returned with a version based on Debian 13, after a four-year gap.
The release brings the Raspberry Pi desktop experience to compatible x86-64 PCs and Intel Macs.
