48-year-old driver dies after car hits tree in Hildburghausen district

A 48-year-old driver died in a crash early Saturday in the Hildburghausen district of Thuringia, Germany.

He was driving on the road between Westhausen and Streufdorf at about 3 a.m.

when his car left the road.

The car went off the road about one kilometre before the turnoff to Seidingstadt.

It hit a tree head-on, according to police.

The driver died at the crash scene.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.
