30 young crocodiles found in a passenger’s bag on an Egyptian train

Authorities found 30 young crocodiles in a passenger’s bag at Assiut station in Egypt.

The animals were being carried on a train travelling from Aswan to Alexandria, and the passenger was an air-conditioning technician.

They were 20 to 25 centimetres long, and three died after they were seized.

Officials took the remaining crocodiles to Wadi Al-Assiuty Protected Area in Assiut for care and feeding.

The competent prosecution authorized their return to their natural habitat in Lake Nasser in Aswan.

The case has raised concerns about illegal wildlife transport and possible danger to passengers if an animal escaped.

Officials are preparing to move the crocodiles back to Lake Nasser, while calls have been made for stricter luggage checks on trains.
