Gangjin community salon wins award for volunteer care video

Gangjin community salon wins award for volunteer care video

A short video about Jakcheon Salon’s volunteer care for older residents has won a special award at South Korea’s third Small Film Festival.

The public hair salon is run by the community welfare council in Jakcheon-myeon, in Gangjin County.

Local volunteers donate haircuts and hair colouring, while taxi support helps older people who have trouble getting around.

The 20-second video shows residents receiving care and smiling after having their hair done, highlighting how local people work together to support older residents.

The festival recognises videos about welfare work in communities across South Korea, and the salon’s story received the Small Special Award in the short-form category.

The winning video is due to screen for free at small cinemas nationwide on November 28.
