Somos says it will sue Sheinbaum and Buenrostro over defamation
Mexican party Somos says it will sue President Claudia Sheinbaum and official Raquel Buenrostro for alleged defamation and damage to its reputation.
The party says they are trying to involve it in unsupported allegations to divert attention from a crisis at Mexico’s National Electoral Institute, known as the INE.
Somos says the INE’s credibility has been badly damaged and blames former head Guadalupe Taddei, while its claims of misconduct remain accusations.
It also criticizes changes to the institute’s decision-making powers and says public trust in the election authority is at risk ahead of the 2026–27 electoral processes.
