South Korean woman gets suspended sentence for assaulting older sister

A court in Busan, South Korea, gave a woman an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for assaulting her older sister.

The younger woman, in her 70s, attacked her sister, who is in her 80s, at an apartment on February 20.

She had heard from an acquaintance that her sister was having an affair with her husband, and the court said she acted in anger.

The sister suffered a broken left thigh bone and other injuries, including bruising to her knee.

The judge rejected the younger woman’s claim that she had not pressed her knee against her sister’s chest, relying in part on the victim’s account.

The court said the injuries were serious and that the sisters had not reached a settlement or made up for the harm.

The sentence was suspended because the woman largely admitted the assault, it appeared to be an impulsive act, and she had no prior criminal record.
