Man found dead in Japan’s Kurobe Gorge after apparent fall from trail

A man found dead in Kurobe Gorge died from traumatic shock, an autopsy found on October 26.

Police believe he may have fallen about 180 metres from the trail known as the Horizontal Path, which is about 960 metres above sea level.

His body was found on a cliff near Shiai Valley, at about 780 metres, on October 22.

Police are investigating whether he was a 57-year-old man from Tokyo who had been missing since October 18.

The missing man’s tent and hiking equipment were left in a tunnel nearby.

The narrow trail runs along steep cliffs, making the suspected fall a significant part of the investigation.

Police are working to confirm the dead man’s identity and his possible connection to the missing person.
