Sheinbaum opens Rizo de Oro bridge in Chiapas

President Claudia Sheinbaum opened the Rizo de Oro bridge in La Concordia, Chiapas, on November 7.

It connects communities in the Frailesca and Sierra Mariscal regions, including routes between La Concordia and Chicomuselo.

The bridge replaces crossings by small boats that residents depended on for decades after the La Angostura dam altered local routes in the 1970s.

Boat trips could be delayed by weather, and crossing the reservoir could make travel difficult for people, goods and patients.

The new connection could save up to two and a half hours on journeys between Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Frontera Comalapa.

Officials estimate it will benefit more than 300,000 people across 10 municipalities and 21 communities.

The bridge is meant to improve regional travel and commerce, including the movement of crops between the two regions.
