Lucas Beltrán aims to keep River place ahead of Racing and Boca matches

Lucas Beltrán is competing for River Plate's centre-forward spot after returning to the Argentine club from Fiorentina.

He has played 13 matches, totalling 629 minutes, without scoring since his return.

His pressing helped River beat Belgrano 2-0, and he assisted Ángel Correa's goal.

That performance helped Beltrán move ahead of Sebastián Driussi, who has scored nine goals for River in 2026 but has struggled in recent games.

Beltrán's work also created more room for River's attackers, including Correa and Thiago Almada.

He needs to add goals to keep his place, after providing three assists since his return.

River face Racing on Sunday, then Boca Juniors seven days later in the Superclásico.
