Swiss pension fund minimum interest rate rises to 2% in 2027
Switzerland’s Federal Council has raised the pension savings minimum rate to 2% from 1.25%, starting in 2027.
The rate sets the minimum interest that pension funds must credit to savings in the mandatory part of the occupational pension system.
The government says pension funds are in a strong financial position and the increase will help offset higher inflation since 2022.
For someone with 200,000 francs in pension savings, the annual interest would be 4,000 francs at 2%, compared with 2,500 francs at 1.25%.
Higher interest can help workers build retirement savings, though the effect on any future pension will depend on their circumstances.
The pension commission had recommended 1.75%, while the insurance association said 2% was too high and argued for 1%.
The new minimum rate takes effect in January 2027.
