Flávio Bolsonaro faces second Supreme Court inquiry over money-laundering suspicions
Brazil’s Federal Police has asked the Supreme Federal Court to investigate Senator Flávio Bolsonaro over suspected money laundering involving lawyer Willer Tomaz.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes was assigned to oversee the case.
The investigation grew out of a wider inquiry into possible irregularities in digital payments and sports betting.
Police say data from Tomaz’s phone showed contacts with Bolsonaro, prompting the case to go to the top court because of the senator’s legal status.
Investigators are examining a bank account linked to Tomaz that moved about R$130 million between March and May 2025, as well as records of meetings and travel payments.
A separate report said a company owned by Tomaz acted as an intermediary for flights Bolsonaro took to Europe in 2025; Bolsonaro has said their relationship is friendship, and has denied wrongdoing.
This is Bolsonaro’s second inquiry at the Supreme Court; the other concerns funding for a film about his father, Jair Bolsonaro.
The investigation’s next steps were not specified, and the inquiry will examine where the money came from and where it went.
