Indonesia Counts Paid MagangHub Interns as Employed

Indonesia counts paid MagangHub interns as employed because they work during six-month placements and receive a salary.

Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto said 40% are expected to stay with the same workplace after their placement, while the others will look for different jobs.

The programme is run by Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower.

The country's statistics agency counted about 46,000 people in MagangHub's first batch in August 2026.

It reported 147.98 million people employed and 7.38 million unemployed that month, with unemployment down 77,000 from August 2025.

Counting paid interns as workers affects employment totals, even though their placements last only six months.
