Supercars returns to Phillip Island on five-year deal

The Supercars Championship will return to Phillip Island in 2027 under a five-year deal with the Victorian government.

The seaside circuit will host a Finals Series round, its first Supercars event since 2019.

Phillip Island is set to lose MotoGP to Adelaide in 2027, after hosting the motorcycle race since 1989.

The move also follows the final Australian Superbike world championship round at the circuit, scheduled for 2027.

The departures have worried local businesses that depend on visitors drawn by major races.

The local tourism body says racing brings $80 million to Phillip Island’s economy.

The Supercars round is intended to fill some of that gap, and is expected to be promoted by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

Supercars is still finalising its 2027 calendar, with the number of rounds dependent on whether teams agree to proposed changes to their charter.
