Niclas Füllkrug reportedly set for Germany squad return

Jürgen Klopp is reportedly planning to bring Niclas Füllkrug back into Germany’s squad for its next Nations League matches.

Germany are due to play Serbia and the Netherlands in the final games of the group stage.

Füllkrug, 33, has scored 12 goals in 10 competitive matches for Bremen this season.

He has also scored 14 times in 24 appearances for Germany, but his age had raised doubts about a recall as Klopp looks to build for the future.

Germany have not had a goal from a centre-forward in Klopp’s first four matches, making a striker’s place a pressing need.

Paris Brunner, a 20-year-old Monaco forward, is reportedly not being selected this time despite scoring eight goals in 11 appearances.

Germany are third in their group and need to reach the top two to qualify for the quarter-finals; the team’s squad is due to be announced on Thursday.
