Meta launches $35-billion stock offering to fund AI expansion

Meta launched an offering of about $35-billion in stock to help pay for its expansion in artificial intelligence.

The company, which owns Facebook, is increasing spending on data centres, computing capacity and AI products.

The investment is aimed at competing with OpenAI and Anthropic, two major AI companies.

Meta also plans a separate share-sale program of up to $60-billion, after its non-voting Class C shares begin trading.

That trading is expected in the first quarter of 2027.

Meta had $82.45-billion in cash and similar assets at the end of September, slightly more than its $80.92-billion in long-term debt.

The fundraising comes as Meta has committed to spend about $825-billion, mainly on data centres, AI infrastructure and cloud computing power.
