NBA 2K25's MyCareer mode will end when its servers shut down
2K will shut down NBA 2K25's servers on December 31.
The change will affect players who bought the game, including its $99.99 All-Star Edition, which launched in September 2024.
MyCareer and MyTeam depend on those servers, so those modes will stop working when the servers close.
Players will still be able to redownload the game and play offline modes such as Play Now and MyNBA.
Digital game purchases are licenses, not permanent ownership, and publishers can limit access under the terms they set.
Physical discs do not always guarantee lasting access either, because some games need online servers to run.
Sony plans to stop making disc-based PlayStation games in January 2028, while new games will be sold digitally.
