Türkiye’s energy minister signals possible new oil discovery in Gabar
Türkiye’s energy minister said a new oil discovery may be announced soon in Gabar, a region where the country is exploring for oil and gas.
The discovery is not yet confirmed, and Bayraktar said exploration is continuing both on land and offshore.
Türkiye began producing gas from the Sakarya field in the Black Sea in 2023.
Black Sea gas production is set to reach 7.5 billion cubic metres a year, about double its current level, with output expected to reach roughly four times that level by 2028.
The government is seeking to diversify energy supplies to protect Türkiye from disruptions and meet rising demand.
Further exploration continues, but Bayraktar gave no details on when a Gabar discovery might be announced.
