Swiss petrol prices fall below 2 francs per litre

The average price of unleaded 95 in Switzerland fell to 1.99 francs per litre, dropping below 2 francs for the first time since early September.

The Touring Club Switzerland’s latest figures show it fell by 12 centimes in a week, while unleaded 98 also dropped by 12 centimes to 2.10 francs.

Diesel fell by 6 centimes to 2.34 francs per litre, a smaller decrease than for petrol.

International oil prices have eased in recent days, with Brent crude falling to just over $97 a barrel from $118 a week earlier.

Lower oil prices can take time to reach Swiss filling stations, so changes in global markets do not affect drivers immediately.

The low water level on the Rhine had also raised fuel transport costs in recent weeks, and the river level has continued to fall.

The latest price drop comes as oil markets ease, but Rhine transport remains costly.
