Electrovaya to supply batteries for Janus Electric semi-truck conversions

Australian company Janus Electric converts diesel semis to electric power for heavy-truck fleets.

It has more than 70 reservations for its Class 8 truck conversions, which replace diesel engines with electric motors and swappable batteries.

Electrovaya will supply the battery packs, under initial purchase orders worth $26 million for demand in the US and Canada.

Electrovaya will also buy about $1.4 million in Janus stock, giving it a direct investment in the company.

Janus says its trucks can travel up to 370 miles loaded, and drivers can swap batteries in about four minutes instead of waiting for a charge.

The deal supports Janus as it works to deliver its reservations, while Electrovaya plans to expand battery manufacturing capacity in North America.
