Fernsehballett dancer André Höhl dies at 59

Dancer André Höhl has died at the age of 59.

He was a longtime soloist with the German Television Ballet and lived in Berlin.

Höhl began appearing on television in 1989, joining the ensemble after training and dancing at the Leipzig Opera.

The ballet became a familiar part of major entertainment shows, performing with singers including Helene Fischer, Mary Roos and Stefanie Hertel.

His death prompted tributes from fellow performers, including Hertel and Roos, who remembered his humor and dancing.

Friends reportedly found him dead in his Berlin-Friedrichshain apartment after he missed an appointment; the cause of death has not been made public.

The ensemble ended its run in 2020, after nearly six decades on television.

Dear André, my heart is weeping. You were one of the best, funniest dancers in the former, unforgettable MDR Television Ballet. I’m thinking about the finiteness of our time on Earth. Up there, with everyone we like, we’ll form a gang. RIP, yours, Mary

André was artistically highly gifted. He had a wonderful presence. He was funny, he was collegial. A great friend. André has left us much too soon.
