Russia’s Current Account Surplus Rose to $35 Billion in January-August
Russia’s current account surplus reached $35 billion in the first eight months of 2026, according to a preliminary estimate by the Central Bank.
That was up from $21 billion in the same period of 2025.
The goods trade surplus also grew, reaching $91.6 billion, up from $73.3 billion a year earlier.
The Central Bank said higher global commodity prices helped lift goods exports.
But the services deficit widened by $2.3 billion to $33.7 billion, as Russians spent more on trips abroad and transport services from foreign providers became more costly.
In August, the current account recorded a $3.3 billion surplus, compared with a $0.5 billion deficit in August 2025.
The figures show that the stronger goods balance more than offset the larger services deficit over the January-August period.
