‘Trust Me, I’m a Doctor’ Review Finds Its Portrayal of Anna Nicole Smith Unconvincing

Trust Me, I’m a Doctor follows Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, played by Kal Penn, after Anna Nicole Smith’s death.

Smith, a model and reality TV star, died in 2007 from a combined prescription drug overdose.

Kapoor had written prescriptions for her, and his role came under scrutiny as he and others faced a trial.

The film is based on Kapoor’s autobiography and presents him as a doctor who made mistakes but was not a bad person.

The review finds that defense unconvincing, saying the film does not make Kapoor especially sympathetic.

It also argues that Smith is portrayed as manipulative and destructive, rather than given much attention as a person.

The reviewer says the film repeats the exploitation Smith faced in life, by focusing on the people around her instead of her own humanity.

But it’s completely unconvincing.

Everyone wants her, and what they want from her reveals a lot about them, but she’s still just an object to be coveted, hoarded and exploited, even by the film itself.
