Russia's New Standard Sets Rules for Palladium Bullion Bars

Russia has brought a national standard for palladium bullion bars into force.

The rules cover minted bars weighing from 5 to 500 grams and set purity grades from 99.9% to 99.99%.

They also specify requirements for each bar’s dimensions, surface, markings, packaging and certificate.

Palladium had been the only investment precious metal in Russia without its own national standard; gold, platinum and silver already had one.

Standard specifications can support exchange trading because buyers and sellers need a product with known characteristics.

The standard provides a basis for palladium bars to be admitted to organized trading, though no start date for trading is given.
