Axel removed from planned performance at Pope Leo XIV event in Córdoba

Organizers removed Argentine singer Axel from a planned papal event performance in Córdoba after allegations by a former costume designer received wide media coverage.

The show had been scheduled for November 10 at the Argentine Aircraft Factory site, during Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Argentina from November 8 to 11.

Former costume designer Griselda Pelozo made allegations on television and filed a civil claim involving fees and workplace matters; she also described an incident at a costume fitting that she said made her uncomfortable.

Axel said the organizers decided to drop him because of the public reaction, and he said he understood their decision despite being hurt.

Axel says he plans to take legal action against Pelozo, but the story gives no further details about when or how that case will proceed.

The performance mattered to him because he lives in Córdoba and had wanted to sing there for the pope; he has previously performed for Pope Francis in Brazil, Panama and the Vatican.

I understand the organisation’s decision. Society is very fragile, very sensitive. It hurt me, it hurt me, but I also respect it and that’s that.

A wardrobe assistant went on television to speak badly about me, and nowadays they give anyone space to say any nonsense without truth or basis. That hurt me.
