Puebla brand reports $3 million in sales through US nostalgia market

Puebla producers have made $3 million in sales through the state’s Puebla Cinco de Mayo brand, which has existed for more than a year.

The brand brings together local food, drinks, textiles and crafts for sale in Mexico and abroad.

US demand for products tied to Mexican roots is creating opportunities, with Los Angeles, Texas, New York and New Jersey named as key markets.

Puebla’s economic development office says group support can help producers meet US Food and Drug Administration rules on manufacturing, labels and health standards.

The state is also training small businesses in food hygiene, nutrition labels and sanitary requirements, and is helping them form cooperatives.

A delegation from Morocco recently received samples of Puebla products for commercial evaluation.

The state says products sold under the shared brand may have a better chance of entering international markets than those marketed alone.
