Apple lets developers build more advanced Siri controls for apps
Apple is giving developers new ways to connect their apps to Siri through a preview of its App Intents framework.
Developers can create custom actions and teach Siri to complete several steps from one request, such as finding a product and sharing it with a contact.
Siri can also use personal context, information on the screen and app content found through Spotlight.
The changes expand beyond a previous system limited to predefined app categories.
The tools are still being tested by developers, and Apple expects the first customer experiences in a few months.
App Store submissions using the expanded features are scheduled for spring 2027.
The update could make voice control across iPhone apps more useful, though customers will have to wait for the features to arrive.
Apple opened a developer preview that lets third-party apps connect more deeply with Siri AI.
Developers can use App Intents to create custom actions and combine several actions in one request.
Siri can use personal context, onscreen information and natural-language understanding to handle tasks such as checking deliveries, booking restaurants and placing orders.
The preview is available in beta software, while customer access is expected in a few months.
Apple plans to begin accepting App Store submissions for compatible apps in spring 2027.
