Netflix series 꿀알바 turns precarious work into horror

Netflix’s Korean series 꿀알바 premiered on October 30 and follows a young man named Byeon Hyeok-jun, played by Lee Jae-wook.

After a housing scam leaves him with more than 100 million won in debt, he takes a suspiciously high-paying job offer from a staffing agency.

The work sends him into ordinary places, including convenience stores and construction sites, where strange rules and life-threatening dangers await.

He keeps returning because he needs money for his debts and to help his sister and an injured friend.

The horror reflects the pressure to keep working despite unsafe or unfair conditions, and the story shows similar struggles across generations.

The series also draws on the structure of internet urban legends, where people are given rules for surviving dangers they do not understand.

It drew five million views in three days, placing fourth among Netflix’s non-English shows and reaching the top 10 in 51 countries.
