Kansas man arrested over alleged threats against Trump

A 24-year-old Kansas man was arrested after allegedly making threats against President Donald Trump online.

The Department of Justice says Jaden J. Read, of Clearwater, was arrested on October 17 after investigators examined Facebook comments about Trump's planned visit to Wichita.

The posts allegedly called for Trump to be shot and claimed Read had ammunition and had identified nearby rooftops.

The investigation began after someone contacted Crime Stoppers about comments beneath local news posts announcing Trump's visit.

Read faces a federal charge of threatening the president, which carries a possible prison sentence of up to five years.

He is being held in federal custody while awaiting a detention hearing.

The case comes after Trump was wounded in a 2024 shooting at a rally, where one attendee was killed and two others were injured.
