South Korean court fines woman 6 million won for threatening actress Han Ji-min

A Seoul court fined a woman 6 million won for threatening and insulting actress Han Ji-min.

The woman, who is in her 30s, posted the messages on her social media accounts in South Korea.

She published 19 posts in September and October 2024, including threats to disrupt a film Han appeared in and insults directed at her.

She also tagged Han and people close to her in the posts.

The court found the posts amounted to both threats and insults, saying even false claims that damage someone’s reputation can cause fear.

The judge said online abuse and malicious rumours can seriously harm a person’s image, and noted that Han feared further offences.

The judge urged the woman to reflect and not repeat the behaviour; the woman was reported to have expressed remorse.
