South Korea’s September tax revenue rises 91.6% from a year earlier

South Korea collected 55.2 trillion won in taxes in September, 91.6% more than in the same month last year.

Corporate tax receipts rose by 23.6 trillion won to 36.2 trillion won, the biggest increase.

Improved business results, especially among semiconductor companies, helped drive the rise, along with scheduled payments of corporate tax instalments.

Higher share trading and more home sales also boosted some taxes, while value-added tax was almost unchanged.

Tax receipts for January through September reached 385 trillion won, up 33% from a year earlier.

That was 80.5% of the government’s revised full-year forecast of 478.6 trillion won, above the pace at the same point last year and the recent five-year average.

The government raised its full-year tax forecast by 63.2 trillion won compared with its estimate when it prepared a supplementary budget in March.
